NABTU Applauds the Reintroduction of the Pro Act
“The recent reintroduction of the PRO Act marks a critical moment for our members and working people across this country. For too long, corporate interests have manipulated the system to suppress wages, silence workers, and erode fundamental rights on the job. This legislation will finally level the playing field—ensuring every worker has the protected right to organize, collectively bargain, and advocate for fair wages, quality benefits, and safer working conditions without fear of retaliation.

“NABTU and our affiliates have always fought to strengthen labor protections, and this PRO Act legislation is a necessary step forward. It will eliminate harmful and outdated ‘right-to-work’ laws, end employer intimidation tactics, close loopholes that allow corporations to misclassify workers, and impose meaningful penalties on companies that violate labor laws.

“The time to act is now. Congress has a choice: stand with working families or continue enabling a rigged system that puts corporate profits over people. Working people built this country—it’s time Congress ensures they get the respect, dignity, and protections they deserve.”

NABTU Applauds Congressional Confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as U.S. Secretary of Labor
Washington, D.C. – March 10, 2025- Today, North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU) President Sean McGarvey released the following statement:
“NABTU applauds the confirmation of Lori Chavez-DeRemer as the next U.S. Secretary of Labor. As the proud daughter of a Teamster, she understands firsthand the vital role unions and working families play in building a stronger, more prosperous America. Her bipartisan leadership and steadfast commitment to workforce development, prevailing wage, and expanding access to middle-class, family-sustaining careers make her an exceptional choice for this role.

“At a time when our nation is rebuilding its infrastructure, revitalizing domestic manufacturing, and adapting to an evolving economy, strong leadership at the Department of Labor is critical to safeguarding workers' rights, promoting fair wages, and ensuring safe job sites across all industries. Secretary Chavez-DeRemer has consistently supported the building trades and our gold-standard Registered Apprenticeship model. We are confident that under her leadership, the Department will strengthen Registered apprenticeship programs, expand career opportunities in the skilled trades, and uphold Davis-Bacon protections and the dignity of work for all Americans. NABTU looks forward to collaborating with her and her team to advance policies that empower workers, protect labor standards, and create pathways to economic prosperity for hardworking families nationwide.”
