“Let me say to you tonight that whenever you are engaged in work that serves humanity and is for the building of humanity, it has dignity and it has worth.” — Martin Luther King, Jr., April 3, 1968, Memphis TN
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. championed racial, social and economic justice in everything he did. That’s why he always sought to lift up working men and women and why was a steadfast supporter of the labor movement. Let us never forget that he paid the ultimate price standing up for striking AFSCME sanitation workers in Memphis.
Dr. King left an incomparable legacy — one that all of us, as proud union members, are obligated to carry forward not only on today’s national holiday but every single day of the year.
That’s why the OPCMIA stands united with all those seeking an end to discrimination, prejudice and injustice. Why we work for diversity, equity and inclusion. And why are dedicated to strengthening voting rights, civil rights, human rights and workers’ rights.
Let us always seek to follow the moral path forged by Dr. King’s.
