Just as the OPCMIA empowers our Steel Edge Women to reach the heights of their craft and to be leaders of their union, we support Women in Construction Week, recognizing and celebrating the growing role of women in the trades.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day — #ChooseToChallenge — seems well-suited to Women in Construction Week as well. In that spirit, we challenge ourselves to be free of gender bias, and to ensure full gender equality among our employers and inside our union. We challenge our male members to accept their OPCMIA sisters as full equals capable of doing anything as well as — or better than — they can. And we encourage our Steel Edge Women to challenge themselves, to get the training they need to advance, to assert their rights on the job, and to be activists and leaders within their union.
Women are the future of OPCMIA and the entire construction industry, and we are 100 percent committed to equity and inclusion in everything we do.
