When the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) held its 2021 Conference in Las Vegas from July 11-14, the OPCMIA was there to explain the value of a career in our crafts.
We brought along our virtual reality fireproofing training kit, so conference goers could see for themselves the value of this cutting-edge tool. By mimicking real work environments, it enables pre-apprentices, apprentices and journeypeople to learn proper techniques before ever setting foot on a job, without mixing a single bag of material and most importantly, without risking anyone’s safety.
As the photo shows, our virtual reality training was a huge hit. And it gave school counselors first-hand evidence of how appealing joining our crafts can be for today’s youth, as we work tenaciously to cultivate the plasterers and cement masons of the future.
