The OPCMIA congratulates Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff on their historic victories for Georgia’s two U.S. Senate seats.
We also congratulate Stacey Abrams and the array of voter turnout organizations she founded and inspired for unleashing the forces of democracy, overcoming voter suppression efforts, and ensuring that the will of the people of Georgia prevailed.
This is indeed a victory for democracy. Not only in Georgia but nationally, too, because the Senate will no longer be under the iron grip of Mitch McConnell. Important legislation, ranging from needed additional COVID relief to revitalizing our infrastructure, will actually come to the floor and be voted upon by members of the Senate. Similarly, President-Elect Biden’s nominees for the Cabinet and the judiciary will not be blocked by McConnell. The Senate will regain its capacity to act on behalf of our members, all workers, and all Americans.
The OPCMIA looks forward to working with Senators-Elect Warnock and Ossoff, and all of their new colleagues to save Americans’ lives from this deadly pandemic, improve people’s lives, solve our nation’s problems, and build back better.
