On behalf of the OPCMIA’s nearly 50,000 proud members, I want to express our enthusiastic support for the Biden Administration’s proposed rule to bring the Davis-Bacon Act’s 1980s-era regulations into the 21st century.
By speeding up prevailing wage updates, making the current system more efficient, and ensuring that prevailing wage rates keep up with actual wages, this plan will restore middle-class living standards for construction workers. It will guarantee that federal purchasing power is not used to ignite a race to the bottom, but instead that bids are awarded based on the skill, expertise, productivity and safety of each contractor’s workers. And it will ensure that the plethora of new projects funded by the bipartisan Infrastructure and Investment Act are completed on time, on budget, safely, and to the highest standards.
This proposed rule demonstrates why electing a pro-worker president and having a fellow building trades member serving as Secretary of Labor makes such a profound difference in improving the daily lives of our hardworking members. We are grateful for President Biden’s and Labor Secretary Walsh’s leadership.
