President’s Messages

On behalf of the OPCMIA General Executive Board, I wish every OPCMIA member and your families a healthy and happy Thanksgiving. This is a day of gratitude, and I want to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for making OPCMIA the great union we are.

On behalf of the nearly 50,000 members of the OPCMIA, I want to wish all our brothers and sisters who have served in the armed forces of the United States and Canada—and those whose loved ones have served in the military—a happy Veterans Day.

On this Labor Day, I find myself reflecting on the second-best decision I ever made in my life (number one was to marry my wife, Jeanne): To join OPCMIA Local 31 in Pittsburgh exactly 42 years and one month ago to the day.

On behalf of the OPCMIA, I wish all our members and their families a happy, healthy July 4th! This is a time for barbecues, block parties, parades, fireworks and other celebrations. But it’s also a time to reflect on our nation’s 246-year experiment in democracy and what we need to do to ensure it continues into the future.

Juneteenth is now, rightfully, a federal holiday and a holiday in many states. Whether you observe it on Sunday, June 19th, or on the day it is an official holiday (Monday, June 20th), the OPCMIA wishes our members a joyous celebration of liberation, freedom and empowerment.

On this Memorial Day, let us pay tribute to all who made the ultimate sacrifice for our countries and our democracies. Let us celebrate their courage and heroism. Let us uphold the legacy they have left us. And let us honor all who today serve our countries to keep us safe and free.

I want to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all OPCMIA members and their mothers — with a special shout out to our Steel Edge Women who are mothers themselves and who prove each and every day that they do it all!

On behalf of the OPCMIA’s nearly 50,000 proud members, I want to express our enthusiastic support for the Biden Administration’s proposed rule to bring the Davis-Bacon Act’s 1980s-era regulations into the 21st century.
