On behalf of the OPCMIA, I want to offer my heartiest congratulations to Liz Shuler on her election as President of the AFL-CIO. We also congratulate Fred Richmond of the United Steelworkers on his election as AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer and Tefere Gebre on continuing his service as AFL-CIO Executive Vice President.
While we still grieve the loss of Rich Trumka, there is no one better able to assume the mantle of leadership and hit the ground running than Liz Shuler. Throughout her 12 years as AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, she has led federation’s efforts to organize the next generation of workers, to diversify union membership, and to empower women in the labor movement. Our Steel-Edge Women are particularly grateful for her enthusiastic support for their great work and for the Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference.
Liz was born into a union family and never forgot where she came from. As an IBEW member and official, she understands and champions the building trades every step of the way.
Liz Shuler has always had the backs of OPCMIA members and we’ve got hers. We wish her the greatest success as she picks up the torch from Rich Trumka and takes the labor movement to new heights.

General President
