If you haven’t voted yet, please consider this fact — President Donald Trump presents a clear and present danger to your health on multiple fronts:
- He has done next to nothing to tame the COVID-19 pandemic. Instead, even after getting sick with COVID-19, he continues to flout the recommendations of epidemiologists and he is the number one source of disinformation about the disease. So far, more than 225,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 and the number of new infections keeps breaking records. On Sunday, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows officially waved the white flag, saying, “We’re not going to control the pandemic.”
- He is fighting to eliminate preexisting condition protections. Ignore his words and look at his actions. His efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and now his support of a lawsuit before the Supreme Court to strike down the law would eliminate protections for as many as 133 million Americans with preexisting conditions in the middle of this awful pandemic.
- After four years in office and five years of promises to replace the Affordable Care Act with “something better,” he still has no health care plan. If the Supreme Court follows his wishes and strikes down the ACA, more than 20 million Americans would instantly lose their health insurance while COVID-19 rages around them. Adult children up to age 26 could no longer be covered under their parents’ plan, key preventive health care services would no longer be free, lifetime limits on coverage could be reimposed, and health insurers could issue plans denying essential coverage, such as maternity care. And there is still no Trump plan to do anything about these multiple disasters.
- He has endangered essential workers by letting OSHA go AWOL. Trump’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has failed to issue even a single mandatory guideline for employers to protect their workers from COVID-19. And the few fines it has imposed against negligent employers are so low, they have zero financial incentive to keep their employees safe and healthy.
By contrast, former Vice President Joe Biden has a plan to build on and improve the Affordable Care Act, so that more Americans are covered with better policies at a lower cost. And Biden will get OSHA off the sidelines and back doing what it is supposed to: protecting workers like you from harm.
If you care about your health and the well-being of your family, there is only one choice in this election.
