On behalf of the OPCMIA, I wish all our members and their families a happy, healthy July 4th!
This is a time for barbecues, block parties, parades, fireworks and other celebrations. But it’s also a time to reflect on our nation’s 246-year experiment in democracy and what we need to do to ensure it continues into the future. Given all the challenges facing the U.S. today, this July 4th is the perfect moment to recommit ourselves to upholding and strengthening the right to vote, the right to free and fair elections, the right to organize and bargain, and the rule of law. Our rights and freedoms in America are a blessing and a source of endless gratitude — but they also require our activism and vigilance as union members and as citizens to preserve them.
Have a great weekend and let’s keep working together toward a more perfect union — in all senses of the word.
