On behalf of the OPCMIA’s nearly 50,000 members, I want to congratulate Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on her confirmation to the highest court in the land, and applaud the 53 U.S. Senators who voted to make her our next Supreme Court Justice.
This is an historic moment for our nation, not just because she will be the first Black woman on the Supreme Court, but also because of what she brings to the bench: A brilliant legal mind; a range of experiences far beyond any of her future colleagues, including serving as a public defender; impeccable character and integrity; and deep devotion to justice under the law.
Judge Jackson showed extraordinary grace, dignity, composure and eloquence throughout her confirmation hearings, even as she was subject to false, outlandish, beyond-the-pale attacks on her character and credentials. It is deeply dismaying that some senators hit new lows in trying to slander this exceptional jurist; fortunately, a majority of their colleagues — and a majority of the American people — recognize that she will be an outstanding addition to the Supreme Court.
We look forward to her exceptional service on the bench.
