President’s Messages

The Operative Plasterers’ & Cement Masons’ International Association of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO (OPCMIA) – along with its Plasterers, Sculptors, and Shop Hands Local 755 – represent employees who work for employers represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

Today, Workers Memorial Day, we stop to honor and pay tribute to all of our brothers and sisters who were killed, injured or made ill on the job — and we resolve to do everything in our power to prevent anyone else from suffering the same fate.

On behalf of the OPCMIA General Executive Board, I want to wish all of our members and their families a joyous Easter.

On behalf of the OPCMIA’s nearly 50,000 members, I want to congratulate the 20 Michigan state senators who voted to repeal the state’s so-called ‘right to work’ law and to restore the state’s prevailing wage law.

OPCMIA enthusiastically supports the nomination of Julie Su as the next Secretary of Labor and urges the Senate to swiftly confirm this longtime champion of workers’ rights. OPCMIA General President Kevin Sexton issued the following statement.

Today we are once again reminded of our place in the OPCMIA’s history. For nearly 160 proud years, our Union has smoothly and seamlessly transitioned from one General President to another — each doing their best to ensure that the next generation enjoys the wages, benefits and working conditions that our families fought so hard to achieve.

The incomparable legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. deserves to be honored not only on this solemn and important day, but all 365 days of the year.

On behalf of the OPCMIA General Executive Board, I want to wish every member and their families a healthy, happy and fulfilling New Year. For me, this will be a New Year of transition, as I will retire on January 31st.

On behalf of the OPCMIA General Executive Board, I wish every member of the OPCMIA family a joyous and merry Christmas. For me, this is a time of enormous gratitude for our union and all it brings to our lives — solidarity, support, and the bonds of brotherhood and sisterhood.
