On this solemn and important day, the OPCMIA joins all Americans in honoring the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

He was an unparalleled moral force for racial, social and economic justice who spearheaded profound, positive, lasting change. It is up to all of us to carry his mission forward, especially in this moment when racism and white supremacy threaten the very fabric of our democracy.

Dr. King famously said, “We will have to repent in this generation not merely from the loud and bitter words of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people.” We at the OPCMIA pledge to never be silent in the face of racism, never to be silent in confronting prejudice, never to be silent when we see injustice, and never to be silent that Black Lives Matter.

In 2021, perhaps more than at any point since he was cruelly taken from this earth, America needs to remember Dr. King’s teachings, follow his example, and make his dream a reality for all Americans.
