General President Daniel Stepano

No one should have to die for their job. Every worker should be protected from illness and injury. That’s a moral principle that guides everything the OPCMIA does — and it’s one we affirm with every fiber of our being on Workers Memorial Day.

On this solemn occasion, we honor and remember all of our brothers and sisters who have lost their lives on the job. And we rededicate ourselves to the cause that their passing will not be in vein — that we will correct the errors that did them harm and hold those responsible accountable.

Workers Memorial Day is all the more important this year amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Because our members — and all workers — must be protected not only from jobsite accidents but from the transmission of this deadly disease.

Today — and every day — we pledge to fight relentlessly and fiercely to safeguard the health of every proud OPCMIA member.
